By choosing organic whenever possible we're shielding ourselves and our families from hazardous chemicals and possible health problems. Wenonah Body Lab uses USDA certified organic ingredients. Although we prefer to have 100% of our ingredients to be organic, this isn't possible 100% of the time. Therefore, our guarantee is that our products will always use >95% USDA certified organic ingredients. Our skin is the body’s largest and most sensitive organ. Any product placed on your skin is absorbed within minutes into your bloodstream. We are exposed to so many disruptive chemicals as we sleep, eat, shower, apply skin care products, work, and do everyday chores. Some hazards we cannot always avoid, but we do have control over many things in our lives by making informed choices. The oils, butters, botanicals, and waxes we purchase are: USDA Certified Organic (if available), Certified Fair Trade (when available), Non-GMO, Non-Irradiated, Non-EtO (no ethylene oxide). We believe these choices make for a big impact.
Handmade soap contains glycerin which is a natural byproduct of the soap making process, an excellent moisturizer and also one of the reasons that handmade soap is so good for your skin! Glycerin is an emollient which attracts moisture from the air maintaining moisture in the skin throughout the day. Real handmade soap contains raw ingredients that include fat and/or oil, liquid and lye. Most mass-produced bars that you buy from the drug store or supermarket contain ingredients not recognized as real soap by the FDA. And this is with good reason! These ingredients are usually harsh detergents and hardening agents. You will see that their packaging omits the word soap, instead, calling them moisturizing bars or cleansing bars. Store-bought soaps have had the glycerin removed and placed into other products such as lotions and creams. The reason is instead of buying one product that will clean and moisturize, (such as handmade soap) a consumer now has to buy two products to serve the same purpose.
Since the beginning, Wenonah Body Lab's belief is that proper packaging is as important as using organic ingredients. It seemed silly to us to use premium organic natural ingredients and then use a cheap plastic container. The impacts of non eco-packaging are huge. More importantly, using eco-friendly packaging is better for the environment. Simply, we say "no" to plastic when possible. We intentionally select materials that have a positive impact on the environment. You will notice that our packaging is made from glass, aluminum, and paper. To date, we have not found a non-plastic replacement for the lotion pump so we proudly claim that no less than 98% our packaging is sustainable and eco-friendly.
Wenonah Body Lab is dedicated to the development of 100% synthetic-free, animal free, truly organic and natural skin care products. Absolutely 100% of the ingredients in our products are sourced from premium plant sources. We strongly believe that plant powered ingredients are the best way to achieve skin nourishment, restoration, protection and beauty. We also strongly believe that synthetic chemicals DO NOT belong in beauty or food products. Many synthetic chemicals are also not biodegradable and pollute the environment. The reason synthetic and petroleum based ingredients are commonly used in skin care products is because they are less expensive then natural ingredients and have an unnaturally long shelf life.
